The Challenge
Broadcasting polo presents a unique set of challenges. Matches often take place in remote locations with little to no internet connectivity, making it difficult to transmit high-quality video feeds. Additionally, the fast-paced nature of the sport means that multiple matches are played in different countries back-to-back, making it logistically impossible to rely on traditional OB units. The challenge was finding a solution that would allow Polocam TV to provide seamless, high-quality coverage while remaining cost-effective and highly mobile.
The Solution
Icily TV implemented a cutting-edge remote production workflow using LiveU technology. The key to this solution was deploying LiveU LU600 units with bonded LTE, combining four SIM cards for redundancy and speed, ensuring a stable, high-quality video signal. A WiFi dongle was also included as a backup measure.
The LiveU system allowed camera operators to be deployed anywhere in the world while sending multiple live feeds, complete with audio and commentary, directly to a centralized studio. The studio, operated by a single technician, managed the entire broadcast remotely. This setup drastically reduced the need for large production teams and expensive OB units, making the entire operation far more cost-effective.
Additionally, communication between the production team and camera operators was seamless, allowing for real-time direction and coordination, ensuring a smooth live broadcast experience. Polocam TV also utilized multiple studio locations to provide backup and redundancy, ensuring that multiple games could be broadcast simultaneously without disruption.
